DIVING  POLICIES

Every professional organization that uses scuba diving as a means of conducting their research has a set of standards that their personnel must meet to be eligible to participate in scuba diving activities.  The Nautical Archaeology Program (NAP) and the Institute of Nautical Archaeology (INA) follow the dictates of the Texas A&M University Scientific Diving Safety Manual.  Please contact the Diving Safety Officer if you have any questions about these policies.

EQUIPMENT ORDER

We will once again be placing an equipment order through Paradise Scuba.  Institute of Nautical Archaeology and Nautical Archaeology Program students, staff, professors, and project directors are eligible to place orders.  Please note that all equipment must be purchased for use on Institute of Nautical Archaeology and Nautical Archaeology Program projects and must not be purchased on behalf of anyone outside of these programs.

Equipment may be purchased at dealer cost plus a 10% handling fee charged by Paradise Scuba.  All equipment must be ordered and paid for in full before April 15, 2003, in order for us to receive the order before summer projects begin.  All personal payments must be in the form of a money order or certified check.  We need a minimum $5,000 order to receive this discount, but achieving this has not been a problem in the past.  We currently have an agreement to purchase equipment at this discount from the following manufacturers:

Mares

Aqualung

SeaQuest

Suunto

Apeks

Deep See

Dräger (buy your own rebreather!)

Price lists are available from the Diving Safety Officer.  I will be contacting a few other manufacturers directly to see if they would be willing to make similar arrangements, so check back soon.
